The event is open to teams of young people aged between 14 and 17. The aim is to navigate between various checkpoints located around the Mendip Hills in darkness. There is either a 12km Gold route, a 8Km Silver route which are for unaccompanied groups or a 5Km Bronze route for groups accompanied by an adult.

Gold and Silver groups: Minimum of four, maximum of seven per team, mixed or single gender aged 14 to 17 years of age inclusive.

Bronze: Same as Gold and Silver but smaller groups may be permitted after consultation with the organisers and must be accompanied by a trained team manager. If group is accompanied a minimum age of 12 years will be accepted.

The event is staffed by experienced hill walkers with safety support provided by Avon & Somerset Search & Rescue. It is run with the kind co-operation of the Mendip Hills Warden Service and with permission of the Burrington Conservators and the Wills Estate.


 

Important Information

Gold and Silver groups MUST be trained in navigation and hillcraft safety, they will be tested at scrutineering

All groups must have experience of night navigation

All groups will be scrutinised before being allowed to compete to ensure they are kitted out for British weather

Teams must have a Team Manager and those with Bronze groups must provide evidence of competence or attend a hillcraft training course
